Description: (Mr. Dominguez will share about his background and its impact on his work) |
|
Mr. Dominguez was trained as a ceramic artist, yet his work occupies a unique position as a bridge between the world of crafts and fine arts. Mr. Dominguez will share how he combines pottery forms to create three dimensional sculpture displayed on the wall or displayed as an object in space and how his use of color is informed and inspired by contemporary painting. By combining ideas of contemporary painting, sculpture and crafts into multimedia forms his vision becomes realized. It is informed by his love of the land, a sense of nostalgia for home and ideas of culture. Themes of joy, sentimentality, celebration, loss, humor, environmental beauty and destruction imbue his work with content. For the past 20 years he has worked in a variety of materials to create whole room installations, furniture, prints, and monumental ceramic rock piles. Sculptural ceramic dinnerware sets that when assembled become flower gardens, fish aquariums, a waterfall, knick-knack shelves, etc. and are only mildly functional dishware when used, is a theme he has enjoyed and explored repeatedly over this time. |
