Meeting Overview:

Tele-conference lesson discussion:
  • Keanna Leonard shared that she has lessons that could focus on Crane Viewing.
    • Prefer to present on Feb 15 or 17.
    • UNK offered to have this first presentation from UNK site rather then Rowe.
    • Keanna shared that another teleconferencing opportunity might present itself. The focus would be on the geography aspect of the river.
    • The webcam could support the pre-lesson activities.
    • There would be no cost to schools for the tele-lesson.
  • Platte River would not have wireless connection no earlier then the summer of 2005.
  • Platte River would support Keanna's presentation in any way they could.
  •  
  • Michael Forsberg lesson would be presented from MONA on March 1.
    • Check to see if you could use his video as part of the pre or tele lesson.
  • Mike and Keanna would both like to have pre-lesson examples to assist in designing of lessons.
  • John Horvath will be trying to connect with organizations that might be able to connect over I2 with this project
    • New Mexico, Alaska, Baraboo Wisconsin, etc.

Field Trip Experience

  • The Rowe. Platte River, and MONA would all support the field trip follow up experience.
  • Rowe Student Cost
    • Rowe charges $2 per student for a 2 to 3 hour educational experience
    • Rowe charges $20 per person for the crane view from the blinds experience.
  • MONA has not charges for admission.

Summer Training Program

  • Three or four day teacher training for 9 art and 9 science instructors
  • Hope to create 2 upper elementary lessons (1 art based and 1 science based); 2 middle school lessons (1 art based and 1 science based); and 2 high school lessons (1 art based and 1 science based.)
  • The summer training plan needs organizational planning - January meeting
    • Could UNK be part of the planning and instructional process with graduate credit
    • Spend days at each of the three sites - MONA, Platte River, and Rowe

Brochure

  • Discussed creating a brochure similar to the CEC project.
  • John Stritt will
    • coordinate the gathering of information for the brochure
    • provide general information material for the brochure
    • funding for the brochure will be through the grant
  • MONA will
    • assist in the layout of the brochure
    • check with Forsberg to see if we could use a picture for the brochure. If not, use an Audoban piece
  • Each entity (MONA, Rowe, Platte River) would provide a brief statement concerning the project
  • Submit information for the brochure ASAP - before Dec. 23 if possible.
  • The draft copy of the brochure will be reviewed at the Jan 5 or 6 meeting.
  • Print day scheduled for Jan 7 and distribution for the next week.

  • January 5 or 6 at UNK Room 241 from 2 - 4 pm.
