CODEC Equipment Settings

IP Video Connections to TVDEC Video VLAN

A number of different CODEC devices can successfully connect to the TVDEC video VLAN. To work at the best level, configure the devices as follows:

Steps to connect BNI IP Compact Portable System to TVDEC Video Network:

  • Set IP Compact Portable System to 10 MB Full Duplex
    • Start - Select Control Panel
    • Network Connections
    • Select Local Area Connection
    • Select Configure Button
    • Select Advanced Tab (top of screen)
      • 802.1pQOS - Disable
      • Flow control - Disable
      • Speed & Duplex - 10 MB Full
      • Wake up disabilities - none
  • Assign an IP number for the Portable IP Compact system
    • Start - Select Control Panel
    • Network Connections
    • Select Local Area Connection
    • Double Click on Internet Protocol(TCPIP) - the fourth item down in "This connection uses the following items" box.
    • Click on "Use the following IP address"
      • IP Address - Must get this address from John Stritt - jstritt@esu10.org
      • Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
      • Default gateway - 204.234.50.254
      • Preferred DNS Server - 162.127.17.1
      • Click OK
  • Physically connect IP Compact Portable System via ethernet to port 5 on Avaya switch.

Steps to connect BNI IP Compact Portable System to regular internet 1 or 2 network:

  • Set IP Compact Portable System to 100 MB Full Duplex
    • Start - Select Control Panel
    • Network Connections
    • Select Local Area Connection
    • Select Configure Button
    • Select Advanced Tab (top of screen)
      • 802.1pQOS - Disable
      • Flow control - Disable
      • Speed & Duplex - 100 MB Full
      • Wake up disabilities - none
  • Assign an IP number for the Portable IP Compact system
    • Start - Select Control Panel
    • Network Connections
    • Select Local Area Connection
    • Double Click on Internet Protocol(TCPIP) - the fourth item down in "This connection uses the following items" box.
    • Two options - a) obtain an IP address automatically or b) use the following IP address
      • a) obtain an IP address automatically
        • If your network automatically assigns IP numbers, select this option. (simplest)
      • b) use the following IP address
        • IP Address - Must get this address from your school's technology director
        • Subnet mask - Must get this address from your school's technology director
        • Default gateway - Must get this address from your school's technology director
        • Preferred DNS Server - 162.127.17.1
      • Click OK
      • Physically connect IP Compact Portable System via ethernet to port 5 on Avaya switch.

Polycom

BNI IP Contact system for either the static or portable solutions must have the following configuration changes in order to connect to a polycom system:
  • Within the Powerplay program, go down to the lower right hand corner and click on the Powerplay icon and select Advanced Settings from the menu.
  • At the bottom of the page click on the box just to the left of the item 'Show Advanced Controls'.
  • Click OK
  • On the expanded screen, select H.261 Only option.
