The Curriculum Enrichment Connection (CEC) series is designed to highlight Nebraska artists and their works as they share how the arts have a positive influence for all curriculum areas. The CEC series is targeted at all curriculum areas for students in grades 3-12.

Through new technology, these lessons will be accessible to students on a local, regional, national, and possibly international level. Presentation formats will include

  • two way video conferencing
  • live video streaming broadcast supported by an email connection for questions
  • archived video streaming to support asynchronous (not real time) viewing.

On day one, James Bockelman will talk about his work and life as a painter and artist/art educator. On day 2, artist/teacher Pat Jones leads a hands-on abstract art lesson.

"Afro Psalms" - Charles Fort

February 16, 2005 - High School

Charles Fort will read from his book "Afro Psalms".

"Whoop It Up - Rowe Sanctuary"

February 18, 2005 - UNK

The "Whoop it Up" project combines art and science as students, who have not witnessed cranes in the field or as art,have opportunities to begin to build a scientific understanding of this ancient species and an appreciation of their artistic magic.

"On Ancient Wings" - Michael Forsberg

March 1, 2005 - All Grades

Michael Forsberg talks about his experience and photography perspective of the sandhills crane.

Lewis and Clark Journey - William Kloefkorn

March 16, 2005 - Upper Elementary

Mr. Kloefkorn will lead upper elementary students through a creative writing journey with a focus on the Lewis and Clark expedition.

March 18, 2005 - High School

Nancy Welniak, language arts instructor, and Jerry Neeman, instrumental instructor, will connect the visual and performing arts to the language arts.

The Curriculum Enrichment Connection series is made possible through funding and support from the Nebraska Arts Council , the Museum of Nebraska Arts (MONA), the University of Nebraska-Kearney (UNK), the Tri-Valley Distance Education Consortium (TVDEC), and the Southeast Nebraska Distance Learning Consortium.

Enrichment Preparation Checklist for Teachers and Students

Stipends for TVDEC teachers:

If you have never participated in an enrichment lesson or need a refresher training, you are eligible for a one-time training with a $50 stipend. What are the requirements:

  1. You must participate in the after school training - (register for one of the training dates January 17, 18, 19, 24, or 25 - each training will be presented over the distance education system and will go from 4 to 5 pm each day.)
  2. You must register and participate in one of the 2005 enrichment lessons.
  3. You must complete the post-activity lesson evaluation form (should take less then 10 minutes)

Upon completion of the 3 requirements, a $50 stipend will be sent to your school to be paid through your payroll account.


Other Enrichment Lessons

"Whoop It Up" is a related project which focuses on the migration of the Sandhills Cranes in Nebraska.
