1. Who is counted as a user? Any teacher or student who has established an account is considered as a user.
2. Where is the server located for this project? The server is owned by NWSDAC which is a consortium of ESUs in Nebraska. The server is located at ESU 3 in Omaha.
3. After the grant expires at the end of this year, what are the costs for using the program for the next year? The costs are broken down based on the number of account users from a school district. Pricing is as follows:
4. Can a district elect to buy their own server and host the program at their district site? NWSDAC has entered into a three year contract to serve as the hosting site for the Angel eLearning program. If a school is interested in hosting the program at their site, they must enter into a district purchase agreement with Cyberlearning - the owner of Angel. Contact NWSDAC for information regarding a contact for Cyberlearning.
5. Who is the administrator for the program? For the 2004-05 school year, ESU 10 will serve as the administrators for each participating district. ESU 10's role will be to set up the class titles for each district. During training, each teacher will be instructed on how to administer their classes. Schools interested in using the program beyond the first year will be provided administrative training. Administrative responsibilities are said to be pretty simple. Technical support will be provided by NWSDAC and your local ESU.
6. Can we include our name as part of the eLearning login? Each district will be assigned their own domain. The name that will be assigned to that domain will be http://(yourschoolname).myelearning.org Only your school will have access to this site.
7. Since there is an assessment and gradebook part of this program, are you able to export the information into an administrative program such as Powerschool? The writer's of the course management program state that a software bridge script can be written that will allow data to flow back and forth between an administrative program and the course management program. This script is not currently part of the program but the ESUs are looking into getting such a script available.
8. Can this program serve as the school's administrative program? This program does feature several components of an administrative program. It does not include everything. You would need to review the program and compare it to administrative programs to see if it fits your needs.
9. Who is responsible for training? An introductory training will be held at ESU 10 on Sept. 17. Additional trainings will be provided by ESU personnel as scheduled or upon request.
10. What grade level of students should this program be introduced to? Course management software was used last year for students as young as third grade. For best results, course management software should probably be introduced to students in middle school and higher.
11. How do we select teachers to introduce this program to? The first year will be a test run for your district to determine the value of the course management program. As technology is involved, it would be best to select someone who likes to be on the cutting edge. As distance education teachers can benefit greatly from this program, they would also be good selections.
12. If I teach classes over distance education, will I need to add students from remote sites on to my site if they already have accounts at their district? Yes. They will need to be added as a new student to your site even though they have an account at their school. Each district's information must be kept separate. Through an agreement between the schools, the user cost will probably be paid to the sending site by the receiving site.
